Ending your year with a BANG!

If your social media feed is anything like mine, then I’m sure you’ve seen some variation of this activity year after year. I’m about to conclude my seventh year of teaching and I’ve never done a countdown to celebrate the fun and excitement that comes with ending another year of school. It took the idea of a teammate to get me out of my comfort zone and trying something new. (Boy, am I glad that she did!)

Now, I’ll be honest – my biggest reason for never trying this activity before has been because of how overwhelming it always seemed. Planning multiple days of activities, buying supplies to go with them and setting up the balloons always felt like too much when I was hit with the end of the year “teacher tired”. This year, a teammate has shown me how easy it can be. Our school year is ending with a five day week followed by a 3 & 1/2 day week, so my team decided to do a nine day balloon countdown to celebrate each day. My team was lucky enough to capitalize on what our teammate used in the past, so the task of planning of ideas was already done for us. Once you come up with your daily celebrations, you just write them on a piece of paper and throw them into a balloon.

Need some easy and free ways to celebrate with your class? Look no further!

  • Eat lunch outside
  • Movie in class
  • Game time (play a game together… think heads up, seven up)
  • Computer time
  • Extra recess
  • Dress up/themed day (need to pop the day before)
  • Work outside
  • Stinky FEET (no shoes, just socks – my kids love this!)
  • Stuffed animal to class (need to pop the day before)
  • Show and tell (need to pop the day before)
