Pocket Notebooks > Gradebooks

Traditional gradebooks suck. There, I said it. I struggle being able to gain insight about where my students are at from simply looking at a gradebook. Over the past few years I have found the perfect solution. POCKET NOTEBOOKS!

If you use entry or exit tickets for formative data then you may love them too. They are the perfect solution to gradebooks because you can visually see the exact standard that was being assessed. I glue in a copy of our entry or exit ticket and add in the date. The “yes” column is for any student who was able to correctly solve on their first try. The “no” column is for students who were unable to do so on their first try. Within the “no” column you will also see stars next to student names and those are students who were able to do it independently after receiving feedback from the teacher.

My favorite part about this teacher hack is that you can see the progression of each student day after day throughout a unit. If you want to give pocket notebooks a try use the link below and comment with how it works for you. Happy grading!
