Something that I am passionate about as a teacher is working to create an environment that makes kids want to come to school every single day. I am lucky enough to say that the school that I work at also feels the same way.
On my campus, every teacher starts their day with a morning meeting where the class comes together to answer a different question each day and check in with one another. Additionally, I like to do different community building activities when I see the need.
One of the ways that I do this is by doing a themed entry task for my students. Themes I have used in the past are “Motivational Monday”, “Totally Awesome Tuesday”, “Worry Free Wednesday”, “Thoughtful Thursday”, and “Fri-Yay”. For each theme I include one sticky note per student and stick it to my whiteboard, along with directions for the task. Students come in and complete the task and hold onto their sticky note until our morning meeting. When it comes time for our morning meeting I share the sticky notes and pass them out to the student they are labeled for. My kids love getting notes from their peers and often collect the sticky notes from the whole year. If you try this and love it, tag me on social media!
